Why did you choose your particular specialty?
As a medical student I was naturally attracted to orthopaedics. It is a very definitive speciality where you can help people in a relatively short space of time. Improving peoples’ quality of life is hugely satisfying.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The best part of my job is when a patient comes back and says “Thank you”. No money in the world can replace the satisfaction that a grateful patient gives.
What one thing do you wish every member of the public knew?
Google doesn’t know everything!
What three traits define you?
Determined
Hard working
A perfectionist
Who is your inspiration?
My Father. I have never met anyone who is as focused and hard working as him. Even after retirement he always has a “project and a goal”.
What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?
Getting a job that I love. Going to work doesn’t feel like “work”.
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
A Formula 1 driver on a Sunday afternoon. There was a possibility of me leaving medicine to become a racing driver, but I never got to race in a Grand Prix. Spa or Suzuka would be my track of choice!
What advances in medicine are you most excited about?
Stem cell technology could mark a cure for arthritis and possibly the treatment of cartilage and ligament tears.
