Why did you choose your particular specialty?
I am fascinated by the human body and this is my road to self-knowledge.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Restoring function and relieving pain.
What one thing do you wish every member of the public knew?
A technically well-performed operation will have much better results with good quality post-operative rehabilitation. This is something that individuals need to do for themselves under the guidance of a physiotherapist, osteopath or chiropractor.
What three traits define you?
Attention to detail, being calm and empathy.
Who is your inspiration?
I find inspiration in many people for different reasons. For example, a patient of mine who requires a two-year process to reconstruct their leg, but who despite that carries on with life and work.
What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?
I feel that there is more that I must achieve, so maybe I can answer this sometime in the future.
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
I would be a sculptor.
What advances in medicine are you most excited about?
The use of technology. This is happening both in the form of apps to empower individuals to take control of their rehab, and in more advanced techniques in tissue engineering.
What (health) app would you most recommend?
I am fortunate to be involved in creating an app to help in rehab following injury or an operation. So, watch this space!
